Shoulder MRI

Shoulder MRI in Utah

Shoulder pain can limit movement, interrupt sleep, and make daily activities difficult. A shoulder MRI at TaylorMed MRI provides a clear and detailed look inside the joint so your physician can better understand the cause of discomfort and create the right treatment plan.

This scan captures high-resolution images of the bones, ligaments, tendons, cartilage, and surrounding soft tissues. Because it shows details that X-rays and other imaging cannot, a shoulder MRI is one of the most reliable tools for identifying injuries and long-term joint problems.

At TaylorMed MRI you do not need a referral. A shoulder MRI is available for $399 with straightforward scheduling and no hidden fees.

What to Expect During a Shoulder MRI

Preparation

Before the scan you will be asked to remove any metal items such as jewelry, watches, or hairpins. For your safety, you’ll be asked to change into scrubs provided by our facility. This helps prevent any metal or metallic fibers, such as silver or copper found in certain performance or moisture-wicking fabrics, from interfering with the equipment or your procedure.

Procedure

You will lie on the MRI table with a coil (camera) over the shoulder joint with your arm to your side. Soft supports or cushions are used to keep your shoulder stable and to help you remain still throughout the scan.

Experience

The exam is painless, though you will hear a series of knocking or humming sounds from the scanner. To make the process more comfortable, earplugs or headphones are available.

Duration

The entire test usually takes about 30 to 45 minutes.

FAQs About Shoulder MRI

A shoulder MRI is a non-invasive imaging test that uses magnetic fields and radio waves to produce detailed images of the shoulder joint, including bones, muscles, tendons, ligaments, and cartilage.

This scan can detect rotator cuff tears, labral injuries, cartilage damage, arthritis, tendonitis, bursitis, and hidden fractures.

A normal shoulder MRI shows healthy structures, including smooth cartilage, intact ligaments and tendons, and no evidence of swelling or damage. An abnormal shoulder MRI may reveal problems such as partial or complete rotator cuff tears, labral injuries, joint inflammation, excess fluid, bone spurs, or cartilage breakdown.

No. Usually only your shoulder and upper body enter the scanner. Your lower body and legs remain outside.

The MRI scan itself takes about 20 minutes, but you can expect your entire visit—from check-in to finish—to take roughly 30 to 45 minutes.
