Elbow MRI

Elbow MRI in Utah

Elbow pain can make it hard to lift, grip, or even rest your arm comfortably. A TaylorMed MRI elbow scan takes a closer look at the joint to find out what’s really going on.

This exam captures detailed images of the bones, ligaments, tendons, muscles, and surrounding soft tissue that support the elbow. Because it shows both bone and soft tissue clearly, it’s one of the best ways to diagnose injuries and conditions that can’t always be seen on an X-ray.

At TaylorMed MRI there’s no need for a doctor’s order. Scheduling is quick and easy, and an elbow MRI is available for $399.

What to Expect During an Elbow MRI

Preparation

You’ll need to remove any jewelry, watches, or other metal objects. For your safety, you’ll be provided with scrubs to wear during your visit. Changing into these helps eliminate the risk of interference from clothing that may contain metallic fibers, including silver or copper threads commonly used in certain performance or moisture-wicking materials.

Procedure

You’ll lie down on the MRI table while your arm is positioned in a coil (camera) while you are laying on your stomach with your arm up over your head like superman.

Experience

The scan doesn’t hurt. The main thing you’ll notice is the knocking or tapping sound from the machine. Headphones or earplugs are provided to make it easier.

Duration

Most elbow MRIs take about 20 minutes.

Frequently Asked Questions About Elbow MRI

An elbow MRI is a non-invasive scan that uses magnetic fields and radio waves to produce detailed pictures of the bones, ligaments, muscles, tendons, and joints in the elbow.

It can identify tendon injuries, ligament tears, arthritis, fractures, instability, inflammation, and cysts.

Yes. MRI can show early arthritis changes like cartilage thinning, inflammation, and joint narrowing that aren’t visible on X-rays.

A normal MRI shows smooth cartilage, healthy tendons and ligaments, and no swelling. An abnormal MRI may reveal tendon tears, ligament damage, arthritis, cysts, or fluid.

You’ll lie on your stomach with your arm extended above your head in a “Superman” position, allowing your wrist to be centered in the machine. Your head will also be inside the scanner during the exam.

The MRI scan typically takes about 20 minutes, with a total visit time of around 30 to 45 minutes including check-in and preparation.
